Proper sleep isn't always easy to come by.

Sleep is incredibly important for your physical and mental health. If you haven't already, check out our latest blog to learn about a few of the many benefits of a good night's sleep. Although sleep is important, it's not always easy to come by. Luckily, our senior housing experts in Elk Horn are here to help. The following is a list of tips to help you sleep better at night:

#1. Practice good sleep hygiene.

Healthy sleep hygiene habits are the practices that promote good sleep, and they include keeping the room dark and cool, turning off all screens before bed, establishing a regular bedtime routine, etc. Practicing good sleep hygiene is a great way to sleep better every single night.

#2. Exercise during the day.

Exercising regularly is another thing you can do to ensure that you get plenty of sleep. When you wear yourself out physically during the day, it'll be easier for your to crash at night. Just make sure that you don't exercise right before bed, as this can actually keep you up.

#3. Cut down on caffeine.

Nothing leads to restless nights like caffeine does! If you are having trouble sleep, cut down or cut out caffeine, especially  later in the day. Keep in mind that caffeine can stay in your system for up to six hours, so think twice before having that afternoon cup of joe.

#4. Soak up natural light.

Part of the reason why so many people have trouble sleeping is the lack of exposure to natural light. Natural light actually helps to promote a good sleep/rest cycle, so make it a point to get outside during the day.
