Keep your heart healthy with just a few simple lifestyle changes!
At Salem Luthern Homes & Rehabilitation Center, we don't just provide senior housing in Elk Horn. We are also dedicated to helping our residents live healthy, happy lives, and one of the best things you can do for your health is to take care of your heart. Because February is American Heart Month, we started giving you tips for a healthier heart in our last blog. Here are a few more things you can do to keep your heart healthy:

#4. Eat a Healthy Diet
Your diet plays a huge part in your health as a whole, as well as your heart health. Eat your way to better a healthier heart by cutting down on salt and saturated fats and increasing your intake of fish, whole grains, vegetables and fruits. Aim for at least five servings of fruits and veggies every single day, as they contain lots of nutrients, vitamins and fiber that can help fight off heart disease.

#5. Lose Weight
People who are overweight have a higher risk for heart disease. The good news is that if you are already making a conscious effort to eat healthier and exercise more for your heart health, you don't have to do anything extra to start dropping those pounds.

#6. Manage Your Stress Although medical research has yet to find out how stress leads to a higher risk of heart disease, they have determined that there is a link between the two. One possible reason is that stress leads to high blood pressure and high cholesterol, which are both risk factors of heart disease.
