The Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes Part 2

Type 2 diabetes is a serious disease that can lead to many complications for seniors.

At Salem Luther Homes & Rehabilitation Center, our senior housing experts in Elk Horn are dedicated to helping our residents retain their independence. Health plays a huge role in independence, and one of the most common diseases that seniors suffer from is type 2 diabetes. The tricky part is that many people who have type 2 diabetes are unaware that they have it, and that's why we went over many of the common symptoms in our last blog. Here are a few more of the symptoms of type 2 diabetes:

#4. Numb Feet and Legs

Increased sugar in your blood can actually damage the blood vessels that lead to the nerves, as well as the nerves themselves. This leads to pain, tingling or a numb feeling in the feet and legs. Some people also experience this in their hands.

#5. Blurred Vision

The changing fluid levels in your body can cause tissues to actually pull away your eye lenses. This leads to an inability to focus and, in extreme cases, even to blindness.

#6. Sudden Weight Gain

When you don't produce adequate insulin, your body can't process the food you eat on a cellular level, which can lead to intense cravings and hunger. Many people who suffer from type 2 diabetes experience sudden weight gain because of this hunger. If you think that you may be suffering from type 2 diabetes, don't wait to get the care you need. Schedule an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible.
